Golf
For golf lovers among us, the Kambaku golf course in Komatiepoort is an ideal destination.
With a beautiful view over Crocodile River with the Kruger National Park on the other bank, the Kambaku golf course is the ideal golf destination. For all those enthusiastic golfers, but also for non-golfers, this is a wonderful outing.
You often see the elephants, buffalo and hippos by the river while playing. If you also love "birdies", then bring binoculars to the course. Birdlife is present in abundance, with a number of permanent residents: forest kingfisher, osprey, white bee-eaters to name a few, bird watching is a true experience.
The story goes that a few years ago an impala was caught on the second green by a leopard and taken away. This does not happen every day but it does reflect the special character of this little-known golf course.
What's in a name: The "Kambaku" golf course is named after the large tusker from the neighboring Kruger National Park. The word "Kambaku" translated from the Shangaan means "exceptionally large elephant bull." Kambaku was an impressive bull with exceptionally large tusks. The spring and weight of his ivory were impressive. Left tusk 259.5 cm and 63 kg., And the right tusk had a length of 265 cm and a weight of 64 kg.
Kambaku had unique characteristics. His tusks were almost identical, he had no "paint brush" at the tip of his tail, had three horizontal folds or folds at the base of his torso and a perfectly round hole in his left ear. These functions made Kambaku recognizable from a distance. During the dry season, Kambaku spent most of his time along the banks of the Crocodile River, which is now part of the border with Kambaku golf course.
